Marine Corps Marathon

Description

The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM), held annually in October in Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia, is one of the largest marathons in the U.S. Known as “The People’s Marathon,” it is unique in that it doesn’t offer prize money, focusing instead on the dedication and accomplishment of every runner. The race attracts participants worldwide, including military personnel and civilians, for a patriotic and inspiring race experience.

The MCM starts in Arlington, Virginia, near the Pentagon, and takes runners on a scenic journey through iconic landmarks, including the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial, and the U.S. Capitol. One of the race’s highlights is the emotional section through the National Cemetery, paying homage to the military’s sacrifice. The marathon finishes at the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima), where runners are greeted by U.S. Marines who award finishers their medals. This tradition makes the race even more memorable.

The race also features a 10K, and 50K Ultramarathon.

Known for its impeccable organization and crowd support, the Marine Corps Marathon also features plenty of aid stations and enthusiastic volunteers to assist runners. With its mix of patriotism, scenic beauty, and community support, the Marine Corps Marathon offers a powerful race experience that honors both the sport of running and those who serve the nation.
