Bismarck Marathon Description

The Bismarck Marathon takes runners through North Dakota’s capital city every September, starting and finishing right on the North Dakota State Capitol grounds. The fully paved, USATF-certified course is both a Boston and New York City qualifier, tracing the Missouri River and winding through historic downtown Bismarck neighborhoods for a fast, flat, and scenic run. Alongside the full marathon, the event includes a half marathon, marathon relay, 10K, and 5K, drawing runners looking for a PR against a picture-perfect capitol backdrop.

Always check the official race website for the most accurate and up-to-date race information and logistics.

Bismarck Marathon Additional Details:

Every Bismarck Marathon medal includes a blank space specifically designed for writing in your finishing time, a small but thoughtful touch for a race that draws so many PR chasers. Finishers collect their medal at what’s locally nicknamed Medal Alley, then head to a recovery tent staffed by Sanford athletic trainers and an MDU power-up station stocked with bananas and chocolate milk. Aid stations appear every one to two miles with water and Powerade, and volunteers here have earned a reputation for a genuine “leave no one behind” attitude, some of them have been working the same stretch of course for years. It’s the kind of small-town hospitality that’s hard to find at bigger, more anonymous marathons.
