Carlsbad Marathon Description

The Carlsbad Marathon starts and finishes at the Shoppes at Carlsbad, sending runners past the Buena Vista Lagoon and through spectator-packed Carlsbad Village before opening onto more than 18 miles of ocean views along the Pacific coast. The marathon runs the out-and-back route twice, while the half covers it once, both gently rolling with a top elevation of just 73 feet. Held every January over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, mild winter weather and a fast layout have made it a strong Boston Qualifying option and one of the country’s better half marathon PR courses. A 5K rounds out race weekend.

Always check the official race website for the most accurate and up-to-date race information and logistics.

Carlsbad Marathon Additional Details:

With aid stations nearly every mile and 26 fully staffed support stops along the way, Carlsbad runs more like a boutique event than a mass-participation race, and the finish line proves it: chocolate milk, canned water, and a finisher food bag arrive before you’ve even left the chute. Finishers 21 and up can cap things off with a complimentary beer at the Finish Line Festival, where a DJ keeps the energy going well past the last finisher. Marathoners get an extra reward for the early start, watching sunrise light up the Pacific during those first ocean-view miles. Each year’s medal is freshly redesigned rather than recycled, so returning runners never collect the same one twice.
