Columbus Marathon Description
The Columbus Marathon is a flat, Boston-qualifying loop through the heart of Ohio’s capital every October, drawing more than 4,000 marathon finishers and nearly 9,000 half marathoners in 2025 alone. The USATF-certified course tours downtown Columbus, the cobblestone streets of German Village, leafy Bexley, the Ohio State campus, and Upper Arlington before finishing back in the Arena District. With minimal elevation change and strong crowd support throughout, it’s a longtime favorite for chasing a PR or a Boston qualifying time.

Columbus Marathon Additional Details:
Every mile marker on this course carries real meaning: 24 of the 26 miles are each represented by a patient from Nationwide Children’s Hospital, with one designated an inspirational mile honoring children who passed away and another an alumni mile for past Marathon Mile Champions. Those patients and their families line the course at their mile, turning the run into a rolling tribute rather than just a string of numbered signs. Seventeen fluid stations keep water and Lemon-Lime Gatorade flowing, and volunteers pour carefully enough that reviewers note they rarely spill or over-hydrate by accident, a small detail that speaks to how dialed-in the operation is. At the finish, a genuinely generous spread of food awaits alongside the medal, capping off a race with more heart behind it than its flat, fast reputation suggests.
