What This Race Counts Toward:
Brazos Bend 100 Description
Brazos Bend 100 takes place each December at Brazos Bend State Park south of Houston, Texas, on a nearly flat 16.7-mile loop through pine forest and around the park’s lake system. Runners can enter the 100-mile, 100K, marathon, or half marathon distance, with the ultra options serving as a Western States 100 qualifier and a UTMB Index race. With well-stocked aid stations every few miles and a supportive small-race atmosphere, it’s a popular entry point for first-time 100-mile finishers chasing a fast, low-elevation course.

Brazos Bend 100 Additional Details:
Because the loop repeats throughout the night, runners see the same aid stations and crew access points over and over, making it easy for pacers and family to track progress without long drives between checkpoints. The flat, sandy trail through Brazos Bend’s bottomland forest stays shaded for much of the day, though Texas humidity and the park’s resident alligator population (visible from a respectful distance along the lake) add to the atmosphere. December temperatures swing from cool mornings into comfortable afternoons, making it one of the more forgiving times of year to attempt 100 miles in Texas. A relaxed, camp-like base area with fire pits and a steady rotation of familiar faces each lap gives the race a community feel that keeps runners coming back year after year.
