Pinhoti 100 Description

The Pinhoti 100 is a point-to-point 100-mile ultramarathon through Alabama’s Talladega National Forest each November, following a rugged stretch of the Pinhoti Trail from Heflin to Sylacauga. The course climbs Cheaha Mountain, the state’s highest point, over jeep road, pavement, and singletrack with serious cumulative elevation gain. It’s a demanding but achievable goal for well-trained runners chasing their first hundred-mile finish, not just seasoned ultrarunners, and a Western States Endurance Run qualifier for those with bigger ambitions.

Pinhoti 100 Additional Details:

Finishers earn one of ultrarunning’s classic rewards here: a buckle, not a medal, for completing the full 100 miles within the cutoff. Aid stations show up every six to eight miles, less frequent than a road race but well-stocked with food and hydration to get runners through the long stretches of singletrack in between. Despite its reputation as a serious test of endurance, this isn’t reserved for ultra veterans, plenty of runners come here to attempt their very first 100-mile finish, provided they’ve put in the training. The reward at the summits, especially atop Cheaha Mountain, is a sweeping view over the Appalachian foothills that makes every climb worth it.
