Pinhoti 100

Description

The Pinhoti 100 is a challenging 100-mile ultramarathon held each November in the rugged Appalachian Mountains of Alabama. Known for its demanding terrain and stunning natural beauty, this race is a favorite among experienced trail runners looking for a test of endurance and mental toughness.

The point-to-point course takes runners through the heart of Alabama’s Talladega National Forest, following a portion of the scenic Pinhoti Trail. With over 14,000 feet of elevation gain, the route includes steep climbs, rocky descents, and dense forests, all set against the backdrop of the Appalachian foothills. The course rewards runners with breathtaking views from the summits, including Cheaha Mountain, the highest point in Alabama.

The Pinhoti 100 is well-organized, with aid stations spaced roughly every six to eight miles, offering food, hydration, and support. The dedicated volunteers, many of whom are experienced ultrarunners, help create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere despite the race’s difficulty.

Runners must navigate challenging terrain, often in darkness, as the race extends well into the night for most participants. The Pinhoti 100 is a true test of endurance and perseverance, offering an unforgettable adventure through some of Southeast’s most beautiful and rugged wilderness.
